Senior Data Engineer
Location: Vilnius, Lithuania (hybrid)

Johnson Matthey IT (JM IT) is Johnson Mattheys global IT function responsible for ensuring that our IT capabilities are not only able to support and integrate technologies but can also offer insight into future IT tools that could provide us with a competitive edge and improved operating efficiencies.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for driving the design, development, and implementation of robust and scalable data solutions that align with industry best practices and standards. As a key member of our Data Engineering and Integration Platforms team, you will lead specific areas of data work, building and maintaining our data capabilities to support critical business processes. Working closely with business teams and IT mission teams, you will develop and operate data services, leading specific projects and workstreams. Your technical expertise and leadership will be instrumental in guiding and mentoring other team members, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Additionally, you will collaborate effectively with other business and engineering teams, particularly the integration, data governance and reporting teams, to ensure seamless data flow.

Your responsibilities:
  • Acting as the data expert to lead on key areas of work, designing data solutions with architecture, and overseeing implementation.
  • Collaborating with business leaders to understand their data needs and translate them into actionable data platform requirements. Advocating for the platform as a strategic enabler for data-driven decision making and unlocking business value from data.
  • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders across business units, data science, analytics, and engineering. Securing buy-in for data platform initiatives and championing the platform's value proposition in democratising access to data, promoting self-service analytics, and improving data governance.
  • Supporting a secure, scalable, and high-performing data platform. Continuously monitoring key metrics and proactively identifying areas for optimization in performance, security, and data integrity.
  • Implementing strategies to minimize technical debt within the platform. Supporting quality and seamless data exchange through code reviews, standardization, and adoption of best practices in data design and development.
  • Working with the data governance team and Data Owners to ensure the platform aligns to data governance principles and promotes data quality and consistency across the organisation.
  • Fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the data platform team. Implementing a systematic knowledge management process for data platform best practices to optimise development lifecycles and ensure the organisation stays adaptable to evolving data technologies and methodologies.
  • Mentoring and coaching team members to achieve their full potential in data design, development, and support.
  • Embracing a culture of self-ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement. Empowering team members with the tools and resources to deliver high-quality data platform solutions and advocate for self-directed learning in the field of data technologies.
Requirements for the role:
  • 2+ years of experience working as an engineer, with strong data background and experience.
  • Proven experience with cloud platforms such as Azure (preferable), AWS, or GCP.
  • Experience in designing, building, and implementing data solutions.
  • Experience with working on data across multiple components and layers, within a common platform, including landing zones, common domains, and application data products.
  • Experienced in creating, maintaining, and driving adoption of data best practices, guardrails, and standards.
  • Good with defining and managing analytics (inc. error reporting, dashboards, and automated threshold-based alerts) for internal/ external consumption and for developers maintaining the data platform.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Good people influencing skills and stakeholder management skills would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of ARM templates, role-based access control (RBAC), Azure Purview, and data encryption at rest and in transit would be considered an advantage.
How you will be rewarded:
Salary range for this position is from 48,500 to 72,500 EUR per year depending on various factors, such as candidates qualifications, skills, and competencies. This role is also eligible to receive discretionary annual bonus that aligns with individual and company performance.
