Role/Responsibilities

  • The FDS demonstrates an outstanding understanding of accounting principles and finance knowledge and judgment to perform financial statement analysis, adjust reported data per relevant methodological requirements and review and analyze ratios.
  • Responsible for reviewing and understanding financial statements, official statements and other documents related to issuers’ performance.
  • Understand the Moody’s Chart of Account and Methodologies, ratios and analytic thresholds and how to apply these principles to the financial data spreading process.  
  • Work directly with ratings and support analysts as well as accounting specialists to discuss the data, adjustments and other information needed by the rating team for ratings and research.
  • Serve as subject matter experts and as key resources for analytic data related questions or issues for their teammates, managers and lead analysts.
  • FDS have a mastered understanding of financial statement analysis in a particular sub-sector or have key specialization in an operational area. They are key resources for process re-engineering and improvement. 
  • An FDS is often engaged in specific initiatives, in which they utilize their expertise to drive data quality improvements and ensure the best decisions are reached. 
  • Liaise with analysts and accounting specialists in knowledge sharing and training sessions and with outsourcers and FDAs providing training and feedback. 

Qualifications

  • B.A. or B.S. degree required; specializations in Accounting, Finance, or Economics preferred.
  • Pursuing an certification or advanced degree in a relevant field of study is a plus
    3-5 years of relevant work experience required.
  • Knowledge or prior experience analyzing financial statements is required
    Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products and particularly Excel , such as pivot tables, lookups, etc.
  • Mastery of Moody’s methodologies, policies and adjustments or equivalent knowledge are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task required.
  • Knowledge or prior experience in accounting is a plus.
  • Individual must be organized, dependable, able to multi-task and manage priorities, display Initiative, and have the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication (verbal & written), and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Candidate must have the ability to quickly transition as priorities change to meet demands.
