The Role / Responsibilities

This role will be responsible for analytic data spreading documentation, standardization and guidelines & training. The KM will liaise with Accounting Specialists and analytic teams to create and maintain standards and guidance to financial data mappings and adjustments, resolve Financial Data Analyst (FDA) spreading question, identify and resolve root causes to data inaccuracies and reworks, and enforce standardized spreading guidance.

This is a critical role to provide high quality and timely analytic data to the Ratings & Research (R&R) and Ratings & Research Support (RRS) ratings teams with extensive interaction with Accounting Specialists (AS), Associate Analysts (AA) and Lead Analysts (LA). The KM will also collaborate with other KMs within ADM to create ADM-wide standards and best practices.

Role/Responsibilities:

  • Fully understand and apply the Moody’s Chart of Accounts, ratios and methodologies to the analytic data spreading process
  • Liaise with AS to resolve complex questions and exceptions to general guidelines
  • Work with AS to create and maintain existing guidelines and update guidelines due to new disclosure or accounting and spreading changes
  • Resolve FDA accounting and spreading related questions, and significantly reduce the need to escalate questions to analytic teams
  • Identify areas of non-standard mappings or use of adjustments to achieve a higher degree of standardization
  • Identify root causes for processing delays, errors, reworks and develop and implement continuous improvement plans
  • Analyze FDA analytic data mapping and adjustment questions and errors to identify trends and implement corrective measures
  • Significantly increase spread throughput and reduce spread rework and on hold times
  • Support offshore team questions and perform error analysis to identify root causes and create guidelines and training
  • Plan for upcoming accounting / spreading changes and develop and implement new instructions and communication plan as needed
  • Calibrate spreads across regions and sectors
  • Execute accounting update communication loop b/w FDAs, AAs and Analysts
  • Provide ongoing formal and informal feedback to FDAs on data accuracy to ensure development of team members
    Continually improve training curriculum
    Recommend and implement process improvements, including QC processes
    Work with IT BAs to implement changes driven by accounting updates

Qualifications

  • 6-8 years of experience in accounting, finance or financial statement analysis
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics or similar field; MBA, CFA or other advanced degree is desirable
  • Deep understanding and knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP and other accounting principles
  • Extensive experience working with financial data/statement analysis
  • Ability to enforce documented and agreed upon guidelines and standards with analytic teams
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational and administrative skills
  • Client focus and flexibility to meet changing demands and shift priorities according to business needs
  • Must be results oriented and have strong problem-solving and analytic skills
  • Aptitude to prioritize, focus and work independently, and to adapt when the unexpected occurs
  • Aptitude to work independently and to interact effectively with various stakeholders and senior management
  • Strong communication and relationship-management skills
  • Computer literate with a strong knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to take initiative and multi-task
