Proton Technologies AG was founded in 2014 by a group of scientists who met at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). And since its inception the company has grown at a fast pace and today has over 40 million users. Our principal product, ProtonMail, is the world’s largest secure email service. Our second product, ProtonVPN, is one of the world’s most popular VPN services. Our vision is to build an internet platform for the protection of digital rights, and we are also developing additional products, including ProtonCalendar, ProtonDrive and more to come.

Our Proton Data Team

Over the past few years Proton Technologies AG has established itself as a global leader in online security. Unlike most companies in the tech space, at Proton we value customer privacy above all limiting the data collection to anonymised operational data, and making the job of the Data Team a very challenging one! The Proton Data Team is in charge of all things data in the company: from product analytics to finance metrics, including topics such as product or infrastructure performance. About the position

We are looking for Data Engineers at various levels to work in our Vilnius office or remotely from Barcelona. You will help maintain, improve and expand the data ingestion and transformation workflows so we can take our data analysis to the next level.

What you will do

Prepare the necessary components to populate the data lake ingesting logs from Apache Kafka using Spark, with special focus on schema handling and data quality checking
Design, integrate and document new components for data extraction and analysis on our big data platform
Prepare all of the necessary data transformations to populate data into a warehouse optimized for reporting
Upgrade the current ETL process architecture to enable 100x scaling
Build a repository of curated, well documented metrics for business uses
(depending on seniority) Mentor and guide junior team members

BSc in Computer Science or related technical discipline
2+ years (5+ years for senior positions) of relevant work experience
Understanding of data warehouse best practices in Big Data space
Experience with the relevant programming languages - Scala, Python
Experience with Apache Spark
Excellent SQL knowledge, experience with ClickHouse is a plus
(depending on seniority) Mentoring experience
