Job description

  • Serves as owner for the integrity, evolution, governance, documentation and robustness of the SQL data warehouse – the central repository of all enterprise and 3rd party data made use of by other central support and regional analysts for their strategic, productionised and ad hoc reporting and analytic needs, both for internal and external consumption
  • Builds and leads a team who ensures the data warehouse is fit for current purposes and future-proofed for upcoming needs by owning and delivering against a strategic roadmap of data integrations and reporting data structures – including cleaning, enrichment, and classification routines
  • Works closely with Data & Analytics team to ensure data warehouse hardware and technical issues are resolved and learned from on a regular, governed basis, and delivers through them to enable enhancements and bug fixes
  • Sponsors an ongoing forum and cadence of review and prioritisation of data requirements from business analytic stakeholders
  • Prioritises and delivers against business requirements to enhance the reporting layer of the data warehouse sandbox environment to enable ad hoc and strategic exploration, often delivering through other technical resources
  • Design and rolls out a programme of data governance and data quality reporting as applied to all data warehouse components, including liaison with a global network of data stewards and the leading of a data governance council charged with setting data quality and remediation approaches and policies
  • Owns the evolution of the business master data management platform in Informatica Data Designer, gathering business requirements for existing and new system integrations and liaising with and delivering through the enterprise master data technical team
  • Builds a team of professionals to own the data governance and data quality programme, covering execution of policies to ensure compliance with privacy and security policies as required by Legal, Risk and other stakeholders
  • Collaborates with other analytic teams, including BI and Analytic Effectiveness to define and enforce best practice policies around data consumption, insight generation and the role of reporting (both self-serve and one-off) in decision making
  • Serves as the main liaison for business stakeholders needing access to data assets
  • Together with the Director, Enterprise Data & Analytics, defines and owns policies and permissions relating to data and reporting access (and retraction), liaising with legal and HR where necessary
  • Cultures a strong working relationship with unit leads from analytic teams such as Business Intelligence, Pricing Strategy, Strategy and Analytic Effectiveness to ensure these teams are well-served and trained on World Courier’s data assets, capabilities and policies
  • Maintains and develops strong working relationships with senior stakeholders from across the business to maintain a reputation for accuracy and analytic excellence at World Courier
  • Keeps abreast of healthcare trends and competitor activity
  • Acts as an expert on internal data resources for the wider business. Provides input to the design of business process and enterprise systems regarding the creation and governance of data that is validated and complete, where appropriate, and always meets the minimum requirements of likely reporting and analytic needs

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in an analytic discipline from a top tier university strongly desirable
  • Minimum 5 years direct progressively responsible experience with expert analytics and pricing experience
  • Experience leading an analytically capable team essential
  • Requires some training in fields such as business administration, accountancy, sales, marketing, or computer science generally obtained through completion of a three/four year Bachelor’s Degree program
  • Minimum 4 years direct progressively responsible experience with expert analytics and reporting experience
  • Experience with object oriented programming (e.g. VBA, Python) desirable
  • Experience with statistical or maths packages (e.g. R, Stata, SPSS) desirable
  • Experience with Alteryx (Essential)
  • Strong skillset and experience with business intelligence tools, capabilities, and best practices essential such as Tableau, PowerBI, QlikSense etc.
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Ability to independently manage multiple tasks, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent judgment and decision making skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead cross-functional problem solving teams
  • Ability to provide expert steer and knowledge into wider team settings
  • Advanced planning, analytical and conceptual skills to evaluate business problems and identify and apply appropriate solutions
  • Ability to translate complex technical messages to a non-technical audience
  • Strong business acumen
  • Knowledge of advanced analytic practices such as machine learning, forecasting and optimisation strongly desired
  • Expert skillset in relational databases (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server or Access) and data management essential
  • Maturity and poise required to manage team member(s) (Essential)
  • Strong interpersonal skills & attention to detail
  • Willing to work extended hours as required
  • Dependable, reliable, and trustworthy 
  • Self-motivated, and ability to work as team player and independently
  • Remains calm under pressure, flexible attitude & be able to prioritise workload
