Internews, an international nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC and Arcata, CA, works to ensure access to trusted, quality information that empowers people to have a voice in their future and to live healthy, secure, and rewarding lives. Internews has worked with citizens and local media in more than 100 countries. Together with local partners such as universities and other non-profit organizations, Internews has supported the development of thousands of media outlets worldwide, including radio and television stations, newspapers, mobile news networks, and online news sites.
Internews manages several regional media development projects in Eastern Europe focused on supporting local independent journalists and media outlets. The projects aim to foster resilience in media and society by helping make credible, professional media more competitive, and expanding domestic audiences and demand for fact-based, reliable information.
Core Functions/Responsibilities
- Monitors program accounting and documentation to ensure compliance with funder requirements and Internews’ policies and procedures;
- Monitors program expenditures against budget and assists Regional Finance Manager with project projections/forecasting as needed;
- Processes Field Office payroll;
- Performs monthly expense report reviews and works on any necessary adjustments;
- Responsible for timely and accurate accounting entries including accounts payable, petty cash, vacation accruals and general accounting entries; processes payments;
- Fully performs local accounting duties in compliance with Lithuanian legislation, prepares and submits Local Tax Declarations, Local Annual Financial Reports, actively participates in Annual Audit;
- Understands, demonstrates commitment, and upholds Internews Core Values;
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- 2+ years accounting experience in a senior position;
- Fluency in English and Lithuanian, ability to communicate in Russian preferred;
- Knowledge of Lithuanian tax and accounting legislation;
- Intermediate expertise in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel;
- Proven ability to set priorities and manage time effectively;
- Proven analytical and problem-solving ability;
- Relevant university/college degree.
